On Saturday and Sunday August 19 and 20, 2017, the Winnakee Land Trust will host an Invasive Species BioBlitz at our 105-acre Nature Preserve on Rt. 9, in Hyde Park, NY. Naturalists, nature lovers, children, and anyone interested in knowing more about our local flora, fauna, and biodiversity are encouraged to participate. Regional bird experts from the Waterman Bird Club will start each day with an early morning bird walk. Teams of some of our best local naturalists will lead groups on morning and afternoon surveys to locate and identify invasive plant species as well as other features, within the Preserve. This day designed for families and other outdoor enthusiasts will include visits from local wildlife experts, who will bring live examples of our winged, rooted, slithering, web-footed, and hard-shelled neighbors along to visit. Attendees are asked to bring a lunch; snacks and beverages will be provided. Prizes will be awarded for best photos (Child\Adult) and children under 12 will be awarded prizes for participating. Participation in this non-smoking event is free, though advanced registration is required. Because of the wildlife present, please leave pets at home.
