NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTS HUDSON VALLEY TALENT
[Poughkeepsie, N.Y.] Barrett Art Center is pleased to announce that it will open Photowork 2018, its 31st annual national juried photography exhibition, on February 10. Selected from over 800 entries, Photowork 2018 will showcase 58 photographic works, including 9 from Hudson Valley artists.
E. Jason Wambsgans, 2017 Pulitzer Prize Winner for photography of The Chicago Tribune, has selected the works for the exhibition. He describes that as curator, he “sought to select a body of work that creates, connected by invisible and intangible narrative threads, a vision of the wonder and mystery of our world.”
Mid-Hudson photographers Jim Allen, Millbrook; Evan D’Arpino, Beacon; David King, Lagrangeville; Trevor Messersmith, Marlboro; Julie Mihaly and Les Muldorf, Poughkeepsie; and Jane Soodalter and Bidu Tashjian, Cold Spring. have been selected to join 40 other photographers from 17 states for Photowork 2018. Julie Mihaly’s photograph is part of a year-long project titled “Radius”, in which she photographed as many people as possible within a four-mile radius of her home in Poughkeepsie.
Jurors’ awards with cash prizes for Photowork 2018 will be announced at 5:00 p.m. at the reception which is open and free to the public. The list of prize winners and accepted entries will be posted on Barrett Art Center’s website after the opening reception at www.barrettartcenter.org.
