What’s the buzz? The upcoming rite of spring: The Community Spelling Bee! Several local businesses have already launched the event by signing up as the first 2017 Sponsors. Last year, 54 teams were sponsored by local businesses, clubs, and individuals who recognized the need in our community to help educate our citizens and stamp out illiteracy. This year’s event will take place on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Marist College and will include a continental breakfast, a Bee Reader Raffle and more. The Spelling Bee raises funds to support literacy for adults and reading enrichment for children throughout the community. Literacy Connections helps people learn to read, write and reach their potential. Corporations, clubs, non-profit organizations, and individuals who sponsor teams for the Bee are the backbone of the event. Sponsorship opportunities come in different levels: the Busy Bee at $300 sponsors one team, the Bronze Bee at $500 sponsors two teams. Additional sponsoring opportunities are available at the Bee Keeper and Golden Honey Bee levels. Sponsorships and the opportunity to join as a speller are still available. Spellers are high school students, college students, and adults of all ages. You don’t have to be an “ace” speller to be in the Bee. You just have to like words, reading, and having fun for a good cause.
