THE SEASON OF GIVING: ASTOR SEEKS GIFTS FOR ADOPT-A-FAMILY PROGRAM
Annual Program Spreads Holiday Cheer to Local Children and Families in Need

As the air grows colder and holiday festivities begin, Astor Services for Children & Families, a nonprofit organization providing behavioral and educational services for thousands of children and their families throughout the Hudson Valley and the Bronx, is seeking donations for its annual Adopt-A-Family program, which runs through December 10.

Continuing this beloved holiday tradition, this year’s participants will be matched with low income families who have children under the age of 18. Donors can purchase gifts within two categories, wants and needs. Needs include items such as groceries, winter coats, hats and gloves and wants range from traditional holiday gifts such as dolls and arts and crafts sets to sports equipment. Between December 8 and 10, gifts can be dropped off at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, NY, which is partnering with Astor to receive, sort and arrange the delivery of items. Astor is also accepting monetary donations, which will be used to purchase food and retail gift cards.

“The holiday season is a time of joy and goodwill towards others,” said Sonia Barnes-Moorhead, Executive Vice President of the Children’s Foundation of Astor. “For many years, the community has rallied together to support the Adopt-A-Family program, and thanks to their generosity, we have made the holidays brighter for thousands of children and families in need.”

For more than 15 years, the Adopt-A-Family program has paired children in Astor’s programs, along
with their immediate family members, with donors who purchase gifts for them during the holiday season. Thanks to the community’s generosity, the program brought joy to more than 2,000 of the neediest children served by Astor in 2018.
