FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEMENT FROM HUDSON RIVER HOUSING REGARDING THE TRANSITION OF
OPERATIONS AT THE EMERGENCY HOUSING FACILITY ON HAMILTON
IN CITY OF POUGHKEEPSIE
As of September 30th, 2024, Hudson River Housing will no longer be the
Operator of the Emergency Housing Facility on Hamilton in the City of
Poughkeepsie.
We respect the Dutchess County Government's decision to select HONOR as the
Shelter Operator going forward. We look forward to bringing our experience and
specialized services to support HONOR through this transition and coordinate with
them in the future to reduce homelessness in Dutchess County.
Today, Hudson River Housing reaffirms its commitment to creating pathways out
of homelessness through the continued operations of our diverse housing services
alongside the development of new affordable and supportive housing. Hudson
River Housing has long recognized that there is no one size fits all solution to
homelessness with each housing insecure individual or family needing different
levels of care and support. Every day, our organization works tirelessly to help
people with an unexpected and urgent need for housing, serving thousands of
households every year.
As we look toward the future, Hudson River Housing will continue to advocate for
the creation of more local resources to implement community-informed
emergency housing solutions such as county-wide temporary warming and
cooling centers and the increased availability of short term eviction prevention
and rapid re-housing rental subsidies to help our neighbors County wide. We
invite local municipalities, community organizations, and county residents to join
us in our mission to end homelessness and create sufficient affordable housing for
all.
We wish to thank all the staff, volunteers, contributors, and Adopt-A-Night
groups, who have operated and supported our adult shelter for so many
decades as we continue to proudly serve Dutchess County.
