Mizzentop Day School Announces Ms. Holly L. Ceane as Director of Curriculum
Pawling, NY: Mizzentop Day School is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Holly L. Ceane as Director of Curriculum, beginning May 1, 2023. The hiring is part of Mizzentop’s strategic initiative to continually expand its academic offerings as an elite independent day school in the Hudson Valley.
Ms. Ceane comes to Mizzentop from Kent School in Kent, CT, where she has been a mathematics teacher and has led the 13-member math department through an extensive curriculum review project. As a member of Kent’s Curriculum Committee, she has overseen improvements in institutional instruction, grading, assessment and programming. She has also managed the textbook research and selection process to ensure alignment between curriculum and the school’s philosophy.
“After 3 years of unprecedented enrollment growth, Mizzentop recognized the need for a dedicated Curriculum Director who can support our faculty and staff as they provide academic excellence for our students,” says Karin Shultz, Head of School. “Holly brings the experience in curriculum development we are looking for, as well as a strong understanding of Mizzentop’s culture of nurturing and supporting each student. I believe she is poised to have an immediate impact on our community.”
As a leader, Ms. Ceane will identify opportunities and work to implement them to continually improve and develop academic programming at Mizzentop Day School. She believes collaboration, innovation, and reflection are critical to developing learning opportunities that empower students to achieve their greatest potential. She will help our students reach higher levels of achievement by identifying trends in assessment and standardized test results, analyzing student growth, and modifying instructional practices.
“Mizzentop is a vibrant school with a palpable current of excitement for learning and a strong commitment to supporting one another. I am thrilled to be taking the next step in my career at such a special school and couldn’t have dreamed of a more perfect fit,” says Ceane. “The experience and skills I gained at my previous schools will allow me to hit the ground running. Mizzentop teachers are dedicated and engaging, and I look forward to working together to facilitate change and support growth in the classroom.”
Prior to her Kent appointment, Ms. Ceane was employed at Carolina Day School in North Carolina, a small independent day school similar to Mizzentop. There she taught upper and middle school mathematics and designed and directed evaluations and placements of new students. She was a member of the Inquiry Based Learning Committee and helped lead the school’s committee to advance strategic initiatives.
Ms. Ceane earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology from College of Charleston and a Master of Mathematics degree from University of Tennessee. Her continued education work included time at MIT in their professional Education Applied Data Science Program.
Mizzentop Day School, an independent school for students in early childhood through Grade 8, provides a stimulating and innovative educational program dedicated to building a supportive community through living values and instilling a love of learning in our students.
