Hudson Valley Parent Magazine Partners with Abilities First
Community Magazine to Host Cover Shoot for Children with Disabilities

December 31, 2018 – Newburgh, N.Y. – Hudson Valley Parent Magazine in conjunction with Abilities First Showcase For Enrichment & Inclusion will host a cover event called ‘My Abilities are Super Cover Kid Search’ on March 9, 2019 at the Poughkeepsie Galleria on South Road, Poughkeepsie from 11:30am-2pm.

For the second year, Hudson Valley Parent invites children ages 2-16 attending the Abilities First Showcase to an individual photo shoot where photos are then uploaded to the website for voting. The top five photos will be featured in a photo spread in an issue of Hudson Valley Parent and Hudson Valley Parent’s panel of judges will choose one winner to be featured on a future magazine cover.

“Last year was an overwhelming success,” says Terrie Goldstein, Publisher. “We enjoy supporting Abilities First by participating in their Annual Showcase.” The ‘My Abilities are Super’ campaign was developed in response to Abilities First’s mission to providing a cohesive culture of compassion, empowerment and respect for people with a variety of disabilities. “It’s great to support parents and their kids who have different types of skills by showcasing them on the covers of Hudson Valley Parent Magazine,” says Goldstein. While the cover kid contest highlights the beautiful faces of the children, Hudson Valley Parent Magazine also wants to celebrate and recognize the parents who are the voices of the children.

There are still so many stigmas around children with differing abilities and developmental disabilities. Hudson Valley Parent helps combat that stigma by offering children an opportunity to participate in a photoshoot and see themselves on the cover of a magazine that gets distributed to 25,000 local families a month. The magazine also offers extensive articles and resources for parents on hvparent.com and in the March issue.

Each child who participates will receive a mock cover with their photo and a chance to win that coveted spot on the cover which includes a professional photoshoot at a location TBD with photographer Mike Bloom.

As a staple in this community for 25 years, Hudson Valley Parent is the leading local resource for families in the area. Our goal is to empower families to raise healthy, happy children. We continually work at meeting the diverse needs of our ever-changing market. Hudson Valley Parent offers trusted editorial, extensive resource guides, a family calendar and advertisers that are interested in providing products and services for parents.

We are looking for local businesses that would like to sponsor the My Abilities Are Super Cover Kid campaign and help us grow this initiative for 2019.
