    The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has been caring for children throughout the Hudson Valley for over 171 years! We strive to improve the lives of at-risk youth and are looking for individuals, such as you, to help fulfill our mission.

    We are seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse. The staff nurse assumes those duties assigned by the nursing supervisor including but not limited to maintenance of records, arranging and securing medical care for children, monitoring children's health needs, executing physicians’ orders, assisting children in preventive health care and personal hygiene, caring for sick children, and assessing medical needs.

    The schedule for this position is:
    Sat: 7am - 3pm
    Sun: Off
    Mon: Off
    Tues: 1pm - 9pm
    Wed: 1pm - 9pm
    Thurs: 1pm - 9pm
    Fri: 1pm - 9pm


    • Oversees the medical and health care services in the absence of the RN Supervisor.
    • Assists in the maintenance of records.
    • Arranges for, coordinates, or directly escorts children to and from medical appointments.
    • Administers medications and executes physician’s orders.
    • Administers first aid and routine sick-child care, and provides physician ordered care.
    • Assesses children's physical conditions and refers for treatment as needed.
    • Is sensitive to and supportive of the children’s cultural and ethnic heritage and values.
    • Follows the Agency program for preventive nursing care.
    • Incorporates Team recommendations in providing physical and personal health care to children.
    • In the absence of the Supervisor, acts as liaison between the Nursing Department, schools and community organizations as needed.
    • Performs other medical department duties as assigned.


    Essential: (Required)

    • Valid Registered Nurse license.
    • Must be First Aid and CPR Certified.
    • Valid New York State Driver's License with good driving record as determined by the Agency.

    Non-Essential: (Preferred)

    • Relevant experience working with children.
    • Some psychiatric experience.
