WLA Executive Team
The WLA Executive Team coordinates all activities and events of the Women’s Leadership Alliance. The WLA Executive Team is primarily tasked with developing an annual strategic initiative; overseeing and selecting events proposed by WLA Subcommittees; coordinating with the Chamber for event dates, sponsors and publicity and maintaining the WLA website. Members include the WLA Chair, Chairs of the Advocacy, Collaboration and Leadership Subcommittees and other WLA members. The WLA Executive Team meets at 8 a.m., on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Chamber’s Poughkeepsie office.
The WLA Advocacy Committee identifies women’s issues in support of our mission or strategic initiative. Primary responsibilities include proposing events in support of these issues, developing awareness to the general public by posting content on the WLA website and social media, establishing policy guidelines for posted content and organizing WLA’s annual International Women’s Day celebration in March. The Advocacy Subcommittee includes a Chair, International Women’s Day Chair and other WLA members.
International Women’s Day Subcommittee
International Women’s Day is both a celebration of women around the world and an opportunity to educate people about the plight of women in other countries. Each year, International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on or around March 8. The IWD committee is tasked with overall planning of the day’s events including finding a key note speaker; assisting in the publicizing of the event; organizing entertainment; assisting in getting the word out to area women’s groups, schools and women professionals and coordinating with organizations interested in informational booths.
The Collaboration Subcommittee maintains relationships with individuals and groups that share similar interests in women’s issues and events. Key responsibilities include meeting with individuals or groups who have a joint interest in our mission or strategic initiative; communicating with the WLA nonprofit of the year; identifying candidates to be the WLA nonprofit organization of the year; welcoming new WLA members; proposing potential collaborative events and encouraging others to submit women’s events to our website. The Collaboration Subcommittee includes a Chair and other WLA members.
The Leadership Subcommittee proposes and subsequently organizes leadership and educational events that encourage workplace, personal and leadership growth. The Leadership Subcommittee includes a Chair and other WLA members.
