As we enter the height of the gift-giving season, could there be any gift more precious than the gift of life? Just one pint of blood can save up to three lives. On December 5, the New York Blood Center and The Culinary Institute of America are teaming up for a blood drive. The two organizations have partnered for more than 25 years to help their local communities, particularly in the face of key seasonal shortages. People ages 16 to 75 may donate; 16-year-olds need parental permission and people over the age of 75 must present a doctor’s note. Donors should be in good health, have photo ID, weigh at least 110 lbs, and should eat and drink before donating. All blood types are needed but the greatest need is for O negative, the universal donor. For questions regarding medical eligibility, call 800-688-0900.
