  • Start Getting Prepared for the New Year

Happy Fall, everyone! It’s hard to believe that the year is winding down.

The Chamber and The Chamber Foundation have had a very busy recent few months, with the Hot-Air Balloon Festival and Forty Under 40 events taking place in September. I was glad to be at both events to see the incredible support from our community and business members.

These two events are quite different – the Balloon Festival is an outdoor community event with local vendors, entertainment, and of course the majestic balloons, which are piloted by folks from all over the country. Forty Under 40 celebrates the future leaders in our region, from entrepreneurs to public servants to non-profit directors. I’m always blown away by the talent here in Hudson Valley, and the future is indeed bright.

As the year winds down, there are many other events on the calendar. I would like to remind the Chamber members to take advantage of your local resources - shop and dine locally and buy your holiday gifts from a business in our community. By supporting each other, especially in these still-turbulent economic times, we will continue to move forward and come out stronger on the other side.

As we enter the fourth quarter, I recommend you take stock of your business or organization and start preparing the new year. Make sure your finances are in order, your tax documents are updated, and consider making a charitable donations before the end of the year. There are many Chamber members who can help you stay current and get you ready for 2022.

Please remember to stay safe and help one another, and I look forward to seeing you soon at an upcoming Chamber event.

William Francis, of Fortress Financial Advisory LLC, is chair of the Board of Directors for the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce
