  • DCRCOC presents candidate forum at September Contact Breakfast for New York’s 41st District State Senate candidates, incumbent Senator Sue Serino and challenger Karen Smythe.

As is the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce tradition advocating for local businesses with and providing access to elected officials and candidates running for office, the Chamber will be presenting a candidate forum at its upcoming Contact Breakfast on Thursday, September 20 at 7:30 AM at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel & Conference Center. Chamber members as well as community representatives will have the opportunity to hear from New York’s 41st District State Senate candidates, incumbent Senator Sue Serino and challenger Karen Smythe. This event is sponsored by MidHudson Regional Hospital.

The Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce works to help acquaint the business community with candidates in a non–partisan setting so members can make informed choices at the polls. These platforms also encourage a productive two-way dialogue with our representatives in order to help them focus on prominent business concerns and opportunities directly facing our region.

Sue Serino is a Republican member of the New York State Senate representing District 41, and she was first elected in 2014. Prior to that, Sue was elected to the Hyde Park Town Board in 2010 and then to the Dutchess County Legislature in 2011. According to her website, as a county legislator she was a vocal advocate for hardworking taxpayers and consistently resisted efforts to raise taxes and fees at the local level. Sue firmly believes that like so many hardworking families in our communities, our government needs to learn to do more with less and needs to prioritize measures that will directly benefit our local communities.

Karen Smythe is a Red Hook resident and the Executive Director of the Beatrix Farrand Garden Association. A former marketing executive, she became the fourth-generation to run her family’s construction business. According to her website, Karen’s platform comes from the understanding that more middle-class jobs are needed that pay a living wage. Committed to strengthening the Hudson Valley, Karen has put her skills to work on the Board of the Bardavon Theater, the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum and as a Trustee of Vassar College.
