What Type of Ribbon Cutting Is Right For You?

A ribbon cutting is one of the many ways that you can market your business as a member of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce at no charge by the Chamber.  Whether it is to commemorate a grand opening, an anniversary, other celebration or special day, a renovated office, a new or additional location, or anything else worth highlighting, the Chamber staff will assist you in planning your event.

The Chamber offers both live and online ribbon cuttings to best suit your individual needs. A live ribbon cutting is best for someone hoping to draw foot traffic to their specific location, while an online ribbon cutting should be the preferred choice of anyone for whom website traffic and long-term promotional capabilities is the primary focus.

A live ribbon cutting consists of:

  • Letters of invitations to elected officials (federal, state, county, local) that represent the area of the location of your business.

  • Chamber staff and members being present at your physical location during the length of your ribbon cutting celebration.

  • The date and location of your ribbon cutting is highlighted in our monthly newsletter, The Bottom Line, during the month of your event.  This newsletter is distributed to 2,000 of our members as well as inserted in the Poughkeepsie Journal with a distribution of over 44,000 Journal subscribers.

  • The ribbon cutting is listed on our Community Calendar in our web site, www.dcrcoc.org, as well as the Chamber Events Calendar.

  • The ribbon cutting is listed on the mass email to our members on the week of the event.

  • The ribbon cutting is promoted on our three weekly radio shows, Clear Channel Communications, Cumulus Broadcasting, and Pamal Broadcasting, prior to the event.

  • A list of all ribbon cuttings is distributed to all guests of the Contact Breakfast for the present month.

  • An updated list of scheduled ribbon cuttings is included in the new member packets each month.

  • A commemorative framed photo collection from your ribbon cutting.

*If you wish to have a certain number of people at your ribbon cutting, in addition to the above, we can also design, print and mail a postcard invitation to a selected group of members.  We will also take the RSVP’s and make any necessary follow up calls to insure your requested attendance at your event.  This type of ribbon cutting is available at a special rate.  There are also media packages available for your ribbon cutting if you are interested.

There are some important details to consider before planning your live ribbon cutting:

  • You must be a member of the DCRCOC for a minimum of six months;

  • We encourage that you attend one or two ribbon cuttings prior to organizing your own;

  • You allow a minimum of six weeks for the planning of your event so the Chamber can market it properly.

  • We recommend that ribbon cuttings are scheduled during the weekdays, preferably during the lunch hours, or at 4:30 p.m., as to allow the business community to attend more easily.  It is less likely to have participation from the business community as well as the elected officials during the weekend.

  • Provide refreshments for attendees.  Please utilize Chamber members to cater your event.

  • We encourage you to invite your customers, family and friends.

An online ribbon cutting consists of:

  • A Chamber staff member completeing a photo essay of your location at a mutually agreed upon time.

  • Chamber President & CEO Charlie North narrating and appearing in a dynamic multimedia presentation about your business

  • A customized webpage will be created and housed by the Chamber featuring the multimedia presentation and any other important information.

  • Your business will be highlighted in our monthly newsletter, The Bottom Line, as having an online ribbon cutting.

  • The Chamber will promote the link to your online ribbon cutting through our wide-reaching social media networks

  • All online ribbon cuttings are archived online for viewing long after their release, and all links are fully shareable.
