POUGHKEEPSIE & MONTGOMERY, NY—Every three months, United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region opens up its doors to representatives of area nonprofits, churches, and schools as part of its Day of Sharing Program. Each Day of Sharing is held at the Poughkeepsie United Way office (75 Market Street) to help these organizations meet their client’s basic needs through donations from retailers including Calvin Klein, Bed Bath & Beyond, Izod, and Van Heusen. “Each year more and more organizations participate in the United Way Day of Sharing Program and we have seen the need for donations of goods increase,” stated Kimberly Kochem, Vice President of Community Impact. “Thanks to the continued involvement of our generous businesses donors and support from the community, we are able to provide organizations with many of the necessary goods and services to help improve the lives of their clients.” Last year, almost $100,000 in donated goods was distributed through Day of Sharing. Christina, a representative of The Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, found purple and white curtains: “These curtains are for a little girl, a client of the Center, who is moving into a new apartment. It’s the first time she will have her own room. We are so happy that these will make it special for her.” “For some nonprofit clients, the items that the organizations find at Day of Sharing make all the difference in the world,” says United Way Community Impact Manager Melissa Clark. “Whether it is new suiting for a job interview or curtains for a room, or needed kitchen utilities for first apartment or home, these items make a huge impact in people’s lives. We advise each organization to make sure they take the supplies they and their clients will get the most use from.” United Way’s Day of Sharing will take place at Poughkeepsie office (75 Market Street) and is open to nonprofit organizations, schools, and churches based in Dutchess or Orange counties. The doors open promptly at 10:00am and the program ends at noon. Available items vary, but may include clothing, accessories, kitchen and household items, bedding, and books. Day of Sharing operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Any organizations that plans on participating in Day of Sharing must fill out United Way’s Gift-In-Kind Policies and Procedures document, available at the event or online at http://bit.ly/dayofsharing-application. Please note that this program is not open to individuals. For more information on United Way’s Day of Sharing program, contact Kimberly Kochem at 845-471-1900 ext. 3122 or kkochem@uwdor.org. #
